Cushing is a great town to live in. The school system has great teachers along with great school spirit. They are not very diverse though, they are mainly white, christian, and conservative. But that is how it is in most of Oklahoma. They have two different courses that students can take, college or not. Their college readiness track is very efficient in making sure you take the right type of classes to get ready for college. Their non-college course is very good for making sure you are prepared for life after high school with classes like Math Finance, Anatomy and Physiology, and Economics. All taught by very good teachers! The administration at Cushing goes over the top to ensure that all of their students stay safe and are mentally okay at all times. They overall have decent sports team compared to the other schools in the state of Oklahoma. They have a great wrestling team and softball team. The football has made playoffs 9 years in a row. Overall a great experience!
While Cushing High School has certainly taught me a lot, especially in fitness and sports, I do believe we could have a better building and more sports options. Not everyone is the biggest fan of softball/baseball, football, and wrestling. Options such as volleyball would be great. We could also use better bathrooms that hold more privacy options.
I transferred to Cushing Public Schools from a neighboring district the week school was starting of my freshman year. The school I attended before and Cushing were rivals, so it added extra nerves and anxiety to an already nerve racking situation. Going into high school as a freshman is scary, not to mention walking into a new place with unfamiliar faces. I attended my old school with the same kids since Pre-K, it was all I knew. I didn’t really want to make the move, but after my previous schools softball program folded my parents thought it would be best for my future and my all around high school experience to request the transfer. It was a very stressful time, but everyone was so nice and welcoming it made my transition easy. I am excelling in all my classes and have more opportunities in regards to the classes I can take. Although it was not my idea or my original high school plan I am so happy I made the move to Cushing.
