Crystal Lake South is nothing short of a community. The welcoming atmosphere provides comfortable learning conditions and a sense of belonging. Each staff member and all of the administration aim to keep the environment as safe and as efficient as possible, leaving no student behind. There are several clubs, sports and activities to get involved in at CLS, so you'll always have something that's tailored to your interests! Also, each activity has several leadership positions and roles you can take advantage of as well. Overall, Crystal Lake South develops well-rounded students, and I'm very thankful to have been apart of the CLS student body. For the past four years, I have had a huge support system underneath me, and I'm eternally grateful for that. I appreciate the memories, experiences and learning opportunities I've had over the years, as well as the interactions I've had with teachers, and my fellow students.

Some teachers aren't very competent, others are jaw-droppingly amazing, but I every teacher I've had so far has been genuinely passionate and compassionate. We're not a diverse school, but I've repeatedly been surprised by how accepting staff members are of students belonging to marginalized groups such as the LGBTQ+ community. If I had to name the thing I most want to change about South, I would make it a less high-pressure environment academically. South is ranked as one of the most challenging schools in the country, which is great in many ways, but it's easy for students to feel overwhelmed or pay more attention to grades than actual learning and discovery. The school is definitely starting to respond to this, though, such as by creating surveys for AP students to explain their stress levels, and creating calendars for teachers to avoid scheduling tests on the same day.

tl; dr: Stress is bad, teachers are wonderful, I have a lot of respect for CLS and am very happy to go here!
I think that the academic atmosphere at Crystal Lake South is really good! The people are also pretty hard-working and friendly. The best thing, though, about South is the disability department. I have an IEP in school, and they have just been so helpful and understanding with me! The administration, however, has been terrible. Anytime I have gone to them for help or with an issue, they have been rude and unhelpful. They actually made my freshman and sophomore year miserable! Junior year was a pretty great year though, and I am actually kind of excited for senior year!
