I have really enjoyed my experience at Cristo Rey OKC Catholic High School, mainly because of the opportunities provided there. The school has a work-study program, once a week students go off to work and they earn a portion of their tuition. Through this program, we are learning communication skills, gaining real-life work experience and making many connections. Last year I worked at the Oklahoma City Thunder and I had an amazing experience. This year I am working at the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City in the communications department and I have written numerous articles for the Sooner Catholic newspaper. All of these things will look great on a college application and a resume; I am excited to see what the rest of my time at Cristo Rey OKC holds. Another one of my favorite things about Cristo Rey OKC is the faculty and staff. They are all so supportive and want the best for every student. However, since Cristo Rey is a college prep school, the work load is very heavy.

I have attended Cristo Rey for 1 and a half school years and my overall experience at Cristo Rey has been fairly good. I am very fond of the work-study program that the school requires in which we go to a corporate job that employs our students and helps provide a major portion of our tuition at Cristo Rey. As we go to corporate jobs, not only are we working for our tuition, we are getting professional work experience that we can apply to future jobs & positions after high school. Another positive aspect of this school is the faith recognition. As Cristo Rey is a catholic school, they encourage our faith and offer many opportunities to strengthen our spiritual lives through activities such as weekly mass, confession and adoration sessions, campus ministry, and community service activities. Although there are some positive things, I feel there is a lot of room for improvement.
My experience here has been okay. There have been some good opportunities that I have been able to be apart of. However, there is plenty of room for improvement. Since we are a new school we don't have a lot of programs like, Honor Society or Metrotech, etc. The communication from the administration to students and teachers could improve. For example, when there is a change for schedule or news, the students aren't known until last minute. There is a lot of favoritism in the school from several administrative people to specific students. They may deny it but it is visible to everyone. There are many good things of the school like the Corporate Work Study Program, which helps students be prepared for the outside world. The academics are great too as well. Cristo Rey OKC has the potential to be something even better, and as time goes by hopefully things will improve.
