I have attended Cowan Community School Corporation since Kindergarten. Cowan is a rural community school with small classes. Everyone greets you by name and everyone knows you so well it resembles that of a "family" atmosphere.

However, as with many small school, the opportunity for advanced courses or college level courses is very limited. Technology is also a drawback. Academically we are not known for being the strongest school in the area.

On the other hand, if you want to be involved in any extra curricular activities or any sport, you are always welcome and are never turned away. You do have the opportunity to participate in anything you like because numbers and class sizes are so low. We are not usually known to be the most competitive team in the area, but you are always given the experience of being part of a team.

Cowan High School is a very average school. Due to it being a small school there's not a huge variety of academic ability, but what is there is still good. The best subject that is taught in the school would be any form of history due to all the amazing teachers that teach it. Sports wise Cowan is towards the top in all sports, we have a very good athletic program at the school. If there was one thing I would change about the school though would be the lunches. There is no effort into the lunches and the school has a tendency to serve food that's a week old. So if that can be improved then overall Cowan would be a good school.
The principal, the counselor, teachers, and students fill the small hallways as they go their separate ways to their classes. However, that is not the only matter. At times the students can be a little ruthless, and you have to watch out in the parking lot for if you do not, you or even your car will be hit if these students are not paying attention. The overall experience I had here could have been better. They could have had better food instead of what they were serving...(which was not at all delectable; not even edible) Some teachers knew what they were talking about over the years I had been there, some did not. They did take advantage of the resources given at the beginning of the year, it still did not help those teachers. Not even the students, most were discouraged about trying to get ahead in the course, or even ridiculed for wanting to go on and not be behind in the class. This is a good school, not the greatest.
