Corvallis High School Reviews
Rating 3.74 out of 5 117 reviews
When I started at Corvallis High School my freshmen year, it was my very first time in any Corvallis school. I was a bit nervous at first, as was to be expected, but the staff and students put me at ease almost immediately. In addition to the friendly environment, I had a wide variety of classes to choose from with skilled teachers, who taught us valuable information while still keeping it fun. Corvallis has a great music program that includes orchestra, band, choir, guitar, and music appreciation. Mr. Gordon Martin, the orchestra director, has helped me to develop immensely as a violinist. I also had a variety of sports and other extracurricular activities such as Interact, FFA, Science Olympiad, etc. to choose from. Overall, I have no complaints about Corvallis and am looking forward to the next years of school with them!
Our teachers do their best to make sure students are learning and getting something out of their education. Corvallis offers so many academic and extracurricular opportunities such as FFA, speech and debate, many sports, and clubs like clay club, interact, and national honors society. There are also so many elective classes to appeal to everyone such as woodshop, agricultural classes like vet science and food science, and art classes like pottery and musical theater. Corvallis has an environment that feels like a second home and an inviting and supportive community. I love the teachers, parents, and students. I have been able to find out that I have a great interest in science, public speaking, and surprisingly woodshop. I discovered a passion for learning thanks to many of the supportive and encouraging teachers who wouldn't let me give up on anything.
Overall a very good learning experience and many high level classes that I was able to take. I loved almost all of my teachers as you could tell they really cared about the students. Of course not everything was good, and personally had a few foul run ins with the schools school board. I used my freedom of speech as a student to point out character flaws in the school board at the time. Instead of constructive criticism or justification I was met with harassment from other students and immature communication from the school board. Thankfully this situation was only a little part of the experience, but it was enough to leave an imprint on my time there.
