Cornerstone has changed my family's life. My son was on a downward spiral-avoiding school, severe depression and anxiety. He was accepted into this school in 7th grade and by the end of 8th grade he was a different child. He made a swift change back to the loving, cooperative child he was before.I give a lot of this credit to his amazing therapist, whom he visited daily for the first few months. My son has an amazing connection with his therapist and values his opinions and daily challenges. The staff is amazing and responsive. Most teachers are very good and supportive of their populations needs. The school sponsors great field trips, after school activities, school events, dances and proms to provide them with experiences they may be missing being out of district. Having my son in Cornerstone has changed my life as well as his.I know he is safe and getting the psychological help he needs as well as the academic support.I can't say enough good things about this school!
Life changing! My daughter suffered for a number of years in district. Nutley did their best to give what she needed but couldn’t. I felt strongly about my daughter being educated. Most therapeutic schools do not offer the level of academics Cornerstone offers. Two years later, and this was more than we could have ever hoped for. We have built a team between us and the school. I can trust no matter how I send her off to school in the morning, she will be met by a group of capable clinicians and teachers along with administrative staff. She is now in honors classes and working hard to continue growing. Furthermore, because of the way Cornerstone engages the entire family, the dynamic in our home has improved immeasurably! We still have set backs and difficult days. However, my husband and I feel so completely supported by the staff at Cornerstone, we know no matter what a day holds, they will help us through it and we will all be better off for it.
My child has been in Cornerstone for over three years. In the beginning, she was hard to deal with, sent to the hospital a few times, and refusing school often. There was talk of residential placement. Luckily, that did not happen. We have seen students go the more restrictive placements but have seen more progress to the point of returning to their home school, and some graduating to go off to college. I do see them differentiate learning. But it is firstly a therapy school. Things like bullying do come up here as in public school, but I have found them effective. There were times when I didn’t agree with what was suggested by therapists, psychologist or administration, but always tried the suggestions. Usually, they were right. Cornerstone Day School works as a team with you and your child as a team. It requires all to take part for success. My daughter’s progress has been great. I am very thankful for Cornerstone and they are most definitely the right placement for my child.
