This school has a lot of positive attributes from the outside. However, my child is a student who has attended for the majority of their life, and it is clear that there are many flaws about this school. Although it is a very fun and interactive school, I do not think my child has genuinely learned very much especially in the Middle School. They learned more music and songs for Grandparents day/ Fine Arts night than they do for core academic classes. The sports teams try their hardest but honestly suck, and although there are tons of clubs and activities most of them are after school which became a challenge for my kid. Most of the teachers and staff are kind and care about the students but there are some that could care less. Middle school drama between students is disregarded and not handled properly. My oldest child was not prepared for high school and I am scared for my younger child, there are for sure kids who could thrive in this environment but it is NOT for everyone.
I went to this school starting in middle school, I loved it so much and my parents LOVE the school as well. I had an IEP while going through school, this school helped me become more independent and made me ask for help when I needed it this was really what I needed. I wish I had started here earlier and that they had a high school. THIS SCHOOL IS THE MOST AMAZING SCHOOL. If your child struggles at any point while at this school the teachers and staff do everything in there power to help them. My parents made the best decision when they sent me here.
As soon as you meet the headmaster you’ll know that this school is all about caring and providing for the individual needs of every student. She takes time to personally get to know each family and wants feedback. She was head of the USF education honors department at USF and knows all about training teachers, brain-based learning, gifted education and is always expanding her knowledge and that of her staff. Kids come first here. It’s not about fancy facilities to wow visitors, which many expensive private schools aim for and miss the mark. Those schools are more for show and less about the student. Corbett is about educating the whole child and mindfulness is taught in every grade as well. They are doing it right.
