I go to Coral Academy middle school. In my opinion, it's one of the most excellent schools I've ever been to. But, unfortunately due to online learning, I left Coral Academy. I went to a private school that offered in-person learning, but even a private school wasn't able to surpass the math or science they teach at this school. I love Coral! <3
Coral Academy of Science High School is an excellent college preparatory school. Coral focuses on S.T.E.A.M. education, and they do excel at that goal. My son has been a student of Coral Academy since seventh grade, and he is graduating this year. There is immense pressure put on the students to maintain a high G.P.A. and never falter. As a result, the students feel unworthy of their peers if they are not outshining each other. The building was not initially built for a school, so the facilities are cramped. Since it is a smaller charter school, there are not as many sports offered as there would be at a regular size county high school. The front staff is fantastic and always willing to help. The administration can be challenging at times, but the teachers are phenomenal and are certainly worth the attendance. The students will be ready for college, but Coral needs to work on the students' mental health and social needs.
I liked the amount of diversity and the quality of the students at Coral. It was also a great experience to help build their first ever athletics program and to see everyone become a family within sports.
However, I don’t feel my academics were being focused on at all. Seniors were not given priority when applying for their credits and they prevented me from taking a 5-6 Spanish course this year, with a forced study hall. My “college advisor” has also not been interactive in helping my classmates and I through the application process. Many of us have been lost in trying to find everything out ourselves. Coral is also very notorious for hiring incompetent and unqualified teachers, and my overall learning has suffered. They also end up hiding important information from parents and have gotten backlash for it. There was an incident where a student made a threat to students’ safety and there was no high measure of security taken; I do not feel very safe attending that school.
