Constantine High School Reviews
Rating 3.61 out of 5 67 reviews
The school is fairly small, so all of the students know each other by name. This creates a pretty friendly environment where there is always someone to talk to. However, the education itself could use some improvement. The students are constantly being whisked around as their teachers rotate in and out of the school as if through a revolving door. No true connections can be made with the teachers, and their unique teaching styles can hardly be adapted to before abandon the school, leaving their students to be uprooted and thrown around yet again until it can be decided what to do with them. Further, the available options for classes, advanced classes and electives specifically, are sparse. It is hard for a student to challenge themself and stand out against others when their school only offers three AP classes. It is even worse when they enter college with no idea of what they want to pursue because their school offered no electives that broadened their perception of what is out there.
As a student at Constantine, I felt limited both socially and academically. I watched my more athletic peers get favoritism from our teachers, despite their lack of effort in the classroom. It seemed that the only way you would be successful in school is if you had alumni in your family, or if you happened to be a star in your sport. It was a rare occurrence to walk down the hall without hearing degragetory slurs. I watched as racist or homophobic jokes were made, even in the classroom. Instead of stopping them, teachers would giggle along while hushing the student in a inappropriate friendly tone rather than a more stern one. Academically, I felt Constantine was limited in course diversity. The only in-person foreign language available is Spanish, and the AP courses available can be counted on one hand. A student will struggle to flourish at Constantine, more specifically minorities.
Constantine High School was a good high school. There were some hard times. Especially during Covid-19. Though, it started to feel like middle school in the second semester.
