The learning environment at CTRA abides by three magnet standards: action, awareness, and diversity. Throughout my years at the academy I've learned the importance of unity and inclusion. Since my Freshman year my peers and I played roles in action by participating in various communal service activities. Some of those were donating gifts to children at a shelter, cleaning up the CT River, reading novels to children, serving food at soup kitchens, and even mailing letters to veterans. We were taught that spreading awareness is essential in our community but it is much more valuable when we take positive actions to improve it. Our school is also very diverse. Students from different towns and ethnicities are joined together to learn the importance of our various cultures which we celebrate on different school events called "magnet theme days". On these days we celebrate things such as Hispanic Heritage Month, Black History Month, and The Day of Sharing (our version of Thanks Giving).

I like the opportunity given to take Goodwin University classes for free to receive credit. Overall being in the Goodwin program has been good experience. I feel more prepared for college and also will be going in as a Sophomore because of the amount of credits I have received. The high school overall is not the environment I was expecting. I feel a lack of community and segregation between for example, Goodwin and non-Goodwin scholars. The school lacks communication and has inconsistencies, but despite the obstacles the school provides, it has taught me how to overcome and be flexible when facing problems.
Connecticut River Academy, offers a lot to a student wishing to be surrounded in a professional, diverse environment. Though the school may have its problems, these problems are met head on with open dialogue between teacher, student, and administration. Students like me feel safe, educated, and heard here at this school. It is a fantastic school with much to give to students who may feel overwhelmed in the high school environment.
