A great high school with an environmental science based foundation. The vessel that we use on the river is incorporated not only in a science class but also Community Development and Math. The teachers are always willing to help, and the new set of teachers just hired are excellent at what they do! College Readiness is a must class for freshman and all 4 years are reflected upon those skills. Classes at Goodwin College are offered for free junior and senior year and credits are transferable to any college. There is a diverse student population from 50+ different cities/towns and backgrounds. The food is made in our kitchen, not processed food. We have sports but not inter mural. For example: Boys AAU Basketball, Girls AAU Basketball, Girls Volleyball, Boys Volleyball.

As a relatively new school, Connecticut River Academy still has a long way to go in terms of being a strong, upstanding high school. While most teachers are kind and form good personal relations with students, the dropout rate is high, and most only stay for two or three years at max. Students are very diverse and come from dozens of different towns in Connecticut, and while most get along rather well, the self-segregation is still mildly prevalent, and most weeks are not completed without a fight. The academics are decent, but imbalanced, as the brighter students are never challenged and the students who require more aid receive numerous chances to hand things in incomplete and well past the due date. The dual-enrollment program with Goodwin College for juniors and seniors is one of the better qualities of the school. There are many highs and lows in Connecticut River Academy that need to be worked on, a balance that is yet to be found. Until then, it’s just another school.
Academics could definitely be better, very well funded at least though. The program with Goodwin College is the highlight of the school. Without the program it would not be worth attending.
