For the last three years, I was able to build connections with teachers and some of my closest friends. However, during my time at Concord, I observed how both staff and students lack knowledge of how to respect people from other backgrounds. Personally, my class lacked in diversity and the lack of basic knowledge of other peoples cultures or religions. Due to the lack of awareness of diversity, we always felt left out. For instance, for myself, it is hard to be me since the atmosphere of concord is very judgy towards people that are from other backgrounds. Even though Concord lacks the knowledge of diversity, students including myself took part in a minority organization where we can share our experiences at concord and help improve the environment for the future generation of students that come to Concord.
For me personally, the pros outweighed the cons at Concord High School. Minimal funding due to being one of 16 schools in the district results in some low quality aspects: bad food, very few clubs, old uniforms/equipment for gym and some sports, not the best outdoor fields, over-used classroom materials, and gaps in the faculty. However, Concord has been a great experience despite this; Concord has really good higher level academics (AP Capstone school!) and good teachers, both of which prepare any student well for college, class materials for the STEM and Music departments are up-to-date and innovative, the administration works hard to keep everyone safe, and the school is lively and has a strong family-feeling when it comes to sports and the overall culture.
The music department at Concord is phenomenal and the sports teams especially football have previously in the last four years been in undefeated. However, the school does have cleanliness problems. The school has cockroaches and has seen nice before.
