Compass is not by any means a traditional school, if you're looking to go to football games and play traditional sports this isn't the school for you. However, this school prepares you for life in a way that I've seen at almost no other school. It prepares you to speak with adults, think in complex ways, and use problem solving outside of what you would need in a classroom. They encourage volunteering, community involvement, and intersectional understanding. In my experience, the kids that graduate from Compass are far more mature, kind, and thoughtful than many of their traditional school counterparts. All of the faculty is incredibly approachable, accepting, and kind to their students and even go by first-name basis. What is valued there is the development of the individual through Montessori philosophy and preparing students for the world beyond test scores and grades. While there are not many sports available at Compass, it is very easy to play at other schools in the area.

Compass had a welcoming atmosphere and they fostered peace education. Their down fall is in their college prep efforts, clubs/ activities, and diversity. There was only one sports team and a majority of the student body were caucasian which isn't my ideal environment. I feel that students need exposure to a variety of world views in order to understand how to be a functional human in society. Additionally, I felt like I had no guidance going into college which was terrifying.
I’ve been going to Compass since seventh grade and can generally say that it’s been a good experience. The interactive work and teacher’s commitment to students is unlike any other, but the amount of activities and curriculars are definitely on the smaller side. Would recommend to any student who wants to develop closer connections and learns better in an interactive environment
