Community Alternative High School was my saving grace in a time I needed it most. I left a small-town high school where I was never accepted because I didn't have the right last name. I was severely bullied; to the point where I was put into the (Grand Forks) Altru psychiatric unit for two consecutive weeks. Community accepted me without hesitation and has ever since kept me on track for graduation and has done everything possible to prepare me for college. All staff members of CAHS are very welcoming and show loads of compassion for their students, always encouraging them to do their best in and out of school. The independent work environment of the school shows students a glimpse into what the "college life" will be like and prepares them to be independent in all other life situations. I've never been to or heard of a high school that cared about its students as much as Community Alternative High School does.

The thing I liked best about Community was the Admin Staff and Teachers. They seem to be willing to do almost anything to make things work for the students. As an alternative school, most of the classes are self paced, which I really like. If I need help with anything the teachers are right there and if I understand I can move through a course quicker than I could in a traditional school. This way I am confident that I'll get taught the info I need and have the ability to graduate early.

Since there is no sports or real activities, there isn't the feeling of a real team that you can get at a traditional school. As most kids attending are trying to get done early or can't go to a different school, it kind of seems that student don't form a lasting bond.
