Columbus High School Reviews
Rating 4.1 out of 5 826 reviews
Columbus High School has a very safe school environment, due to immediate expulsion for fighting. It offers a very wide range of activities and AP courses. The counselors and administration push college readiness and try to ensure that every student has all of their college applications submitted or mostly prepared in the fall of their senior year. They offer a lot of faculty support for recommendations, personal essays, and scholarship opportunities. However, CHS does not offer dual enrollment. It is also implied heavily that if you are not pursuing a 4-year degree or applying to more prestigious schools that you are not meeting requirements. This makes it stressful to be a student who wants to attend a local college and put finances first.
This school is not for the faint of heart. It is what it advertises it’s self to be, a college prep magnet. There’s no doubt you’re in classes with the brightest kids in the school district, that being said you will not be sheltered from the norms of other high schools (like having groups such as the popular kids, athletes, etc) . This school has great sports teams and has lots of school spirit. Some cons are that some of the teachers can be ridiculous with the amount of work and the little time given to do the work, on-top of all the test you will have to study for (especially in AP classes). (Also note this school does not offer duel enrollment) Overall, the teachers at this school are okay, some are outstanding and go above and beyond to make sure their students are taken care of whilst others not so much. My time as a student was overall enjoyable and I will not regret attending this high school. I graduated knowing I would be prepared for college and my adult life!
Columbus High School is a preparatory school. It is very helpful in preparing you will a college level workload and teaching you how to manage your time and efforts. It teaches you how to study and no matter the level advancement you always creates a challenge for you. Columbus High School offers lots of AP classes for all your interests and an academic field you want to try. The teachers are helpful and give help, if you ask for it. Columbus also offers the capstone program which is not offered in many high schools. The students at CHS are some of the best people and there is something for everyone as CHS. I would like to see improvements to the extracurricular free time that students can have. Because it is such a demanding school students can get stressed, so some more free fun activities would be great to give students time to relax and bounce back. Overall, Columbus High School is a great, challenging, but fun school.
