I like how Columbus Africentric Early college incorporates African American culture. Africentric teaches and practices the seven principles of “maat”; truth, justice, harmony, balance, order, and reciprocity, and propriety. Also, our teachers and principal(s) inform us about how the African American culture has impacted the world. I like the weekly meetings that occur with the whole school. The meetings consist of the rules that need to be implemented by students. Then, our principal will have us sing the school song; values tradition. I think Columbus Africentric needs to improve on providing more resources for the students. For example, more ACT or SAT prep, more scholarships opportunities, and AP classes. Columbus Africentric Early college is a College-preparatory school. However, I think it lacks the essential necessities for students to grasp higher education. I think Africentric should provide more after school tutoring for students participating in college courses.

I started attending Africentric when I was a freshman, I am now a junior attending the same school. During my freshman year, I had a math teacher for the first quarter but then he disappeared and we had a substitute teacher for the remainder of the year. He had a thick accent and nobody learned anything else for their freshman year about math. My English teacher for freshmen year was also in and out because she had sick family members. She was in our classroom only about 2 weeks out a month. The rest of my high school years the teachers were playing catch up trying to fill in our knowledge gaps. Other then those problems, our school building is beautiful and modern. Our assistant principle makes it personal to help you with any problem you have. Our mentors are very helpful and I recommend coming to our school.
I love Columbus's africentric early college. The school is as it says an early college filled with an African heritage. to the morning meetings and afternoon meetings that woke the student's mind and body, it is a great school. As a student there I can tell you that the atmosphere of learning from not only your teachers but your peers too is amazing. Noone is left behind says your peers. Africentric is just a great school that I completely recommend.
