CPSA is great for high-achieving, self-motivated students. It has a good Islamic curriculum supplemented by teaching Arabic. The secular education is advanced for every grade and subject (with honors/AP courses), and challenges students. There are a good amount of extracurriculars. But most of the teachers and staff focus on the cream of the crop students and leave behind the average/below average students. Also, the school has a very competitive atmosphere, rewarding high achievers and inadvertently putting the other students down, not giving them enough time and importance. Not every student is a straight-A individual who easily scores well on standardized tests. But those who can are put on display, and the rest are not able to reach that level of success, at least not with the school. CPSA isn't for everyone-just for those who can succeed on their own and need limited guidance. The rest should probably go somewhere they can benefit from resources catered to all types of students.
If your child is a gifted and self-motivated kid, then they will do just fine in the school. But anyone who is gifted and smart can do good anywhere. However the kids who aren't gifted struggle, and the teachers just want to push the student to their limits. The facilities are just absolute garbage. Everyone is Muslim and arab/desi, so that can be a plus. School culture is like prison, uniform checking and strictness everywhere. Absence of resources ranging from desks to lockers to internet. The only sport is basketball, otherwise don't bother trying for anything else. The gym with two basketball hoops is used as a center for EVERYTHING (lunch prayer meetings functions etc). I mean it's an okay school if you get the system down. But if you or your child are slow, they will struggle tremendously because CPSA won't even bother to help.
(Pt. 1)
Cpsa, although highly praised, is terrifically overrated. The school has some great students, bright and open minded. Nevertheless, the school never fails to undermine their potential. The students here are completely unaware of their capabilities. This school is raising a batch of perfectionistic thinkers. This may seem like something to be proud of, but in this situation that is far from the case. The staff and administration here reinforce the idea that their students’ best will never be good enough, and the cultural stigmas within the school don’t help. Teachers should care for their students, and at least try to address their issues. Admittedly, some do, but the ratio isn’t proportional. The staff here are one of the main issues, primarily because of their Overuse of favoritism. Anyone in my grade (I can’t speak for the rest of the school), can say that our teachers absolutely reek of favoritism.
