Coal City HS is a very nice school with a great array of class options. Along with having a top class theatre program (and facility), Coal City offers a wide variety of sports and student led adventures such as the Fellowship of Christian Athletes or SADD (students against destructive decisions). The building is kept clean and is always updating to accommodate the surge of students pursuing higher education. For example, the recently built cafeteria able to host numerous events, the industrial class kitchen (foods room)equipped to cater many school+community events, and an awesome custom designed band +chorus room to maximize sound performance. They also have a great staff that works everyday to help their students strive such as Mr Matthew Leman who gives real world advise and tips or Mr Been Baer who cares about his students health if it conflicts with their learning and success. Coal City is a wonderful school that has a big school feel without the big city attributes.

The courses and teachers at this school are better than many others, but sports are much more recognized than academic achievement. There are many unnecessary rules and regulations that students must follow, and there is a lack of respect between office staff and students. There are very few facilities to help college-bound students prepare, and the guidance counselors are not helpful in the slightest. There are many well-qualified teachers, however.
I enjoyed the small town aspect of Coal City High School. The school offers many clubs and after school activities for the students to get involved in. The population of the school allowed for students to be involved in multiple activities such as sports, theater, band, etc. I was given the opportunity to have a part time job, play soccer, participate as vice-president of Science Club, president of Fellowship of Christian Athletes Club, and be a tutor in the science help center. Overall the school does a great job of motivating students to be involved and make the most of their high school career. I truly enjoyed my time as a Coal City "Coaler".
