Christiansburg High School has taught me many ways to deal with certain situations. The staff makes sure we are safe and well taken care of while we attend Christiansburg High School. We have pep rallys and sports events that keep students busy and are fun for students to attend and spectate as well. The only problem I would love to have fixed is the building itself. The building is just old and there are no windows, however, in the next few years the school board has discussed renovating the school. Overall, I love Christiansburg High School and would not ever want to attend another school!
My time at Christiansburg High School was a very unique experience. Being one of the only black students at my high school located in an extremely conservative area, was challenging at times. Our school had various issues with racism, homophobia, sexism, etc. Because of the nature of my high school, I learned that not everyone was raised the same. I came from a background of respecting everyone you meet. Christiansburg High School was great in a sense that it taught me that I needed to branch out and get away from the area. Meet new people with different views, go to different places, experience new atmospheres. Although I was nominated for homecoming court four years in a row, I still felt very small and unseen because of the racial dynamic of the school. I think Christiansburg needs to find ways to teach diversity and teach basic human decency. Racism and homophobia is taught, and the more we branch out and experience people from all walks of life, the more we understand them.
The building and facilities are very old and outdated and the school is very overcrowded. If you are interested in a trade, this school has many programs that can get you licensed in that trade by the time you graduate which is a highlight. Other than that, the administration and guidance offices are very hands-off when it comes to preparing you for life beyond high school as you are expected to figure out and handle these plans mostly on your own.
