Cheyenne Mountain High School is synonymous with academic excellence, athletic prestige (101 state championships), and nationally recognized music and art programs. Nestled at the foothills of Cheyenne Mountain coupled with the construction of a brand-new high school, this is by far one of the most beautiful high schools around in one of the most breath-taking locations in the country. In examining the academics of Cheyenne, much of the excellence seen (whether it be remarkable SAT scores or marvelous AP curriculums) stems from the dedicated teachers. Their understanding of the taught subject is unparalleled and their dedication to the students is unrivaled. They see the potential of every student, and mostly, these teachers go above and beyond their jobs of teaching the material by helping students reach out to prospective colleges and providing invaluable advice (or a listening ear in some cases) to students as they undergo the tradition to adulthood.
Multiple counselors and teachers have helped my daughter find the just right challenge with her class schedule. There are lots of quality classes to chose between. The kids, teachers, and coaches have been inclusive and welcoming. They actively coach the students to not overdo it with too many AP classes... The teachers and coaches are experienced and kind and it shows in the positive climate of their teams and classrooms. This has been an amazing experience for our daughter who started here as a junior.
The school has so much potential. It has great teachers, great classes, great sports teams, and amazing extracurriculars/clubs. Except some of the administration there is just terrible and biased towards the white kids. Racism, sexism, homophobia, and so much more is so easily overlooked by teachers and administration. Although I’m grateful that I don’t have to pay for lunch, most of the food given is barely edible. The workload is excessive, and once you get a bad grade it is extremely difficult to get back to a grade you’re content with. The only way to survive this school is if you find some type of escape, whether that be friends or hobbies (if you can make time for those).
