The classes that are available are fun and offer great educational opportunities. After four years at Chaparral High School, I was able to see and experience most of what it had to offer. The Campus is nicely located by a shopping center which is great for after school or before school hangouts. The campus is quite large. Clubs and sports mainly were run by students and a few teachers giving the school a lot of welcoming activities for almost anyone to enjoy. The food was nothing special just average dishes. Race diversity wasn't a problem a good variety of students from different regions. Classwork was great, teachers focused mainly on understanding and less on grades. Their objective was to make sure that you did the best you can do. Students really enjoy the science and math departments including after school activities. There was always security guards and cameras around campus. Football is a big deal in the school with the games being a great chance to show school pride. The AVID program is amazing by welcoming anyone and helping to the best of their ability.
Chaparral does not seem to care at all for the average, individual student. It was a completely different experience from my middle and elementary school, where I actually felt cared about. Chaparral does a poor job of helping students succeed, although they do a fine job pushing college and after high school plans. The sports teams coaches can be rude and illogical. It doesn't feel like the staff cares about for anyone except the high achievers. However, there are a few teachers who are nice, and a few ways to make yourself more at home on the Campus, although it is difficult. Clubs aren't really a good way to meet people, as they're pretty cliquey, but school events are usually fun, as ASB does a great job organizing and planning school dances and such. There are some good things about the school, however, my opinion is biased as I have felt ignored and overlooked my past four years.
