All Categories
Music Academy, Multi-Media Academy, Robotics Academy are great! The other academies need improvement. Too much teacher turnover due to lack of effective administration and Board of Directors. Makes it very difficult to hang on to amazing teachers. School is excellent for students to thrive at their own comfort level, straddling the arts and academics each school day. AP courses available, but need to strengthen the availability of Honors classes. My boys thrived! Both in Music Academy. One son admitted into three renowned music conservatories, the other admitted into an Ivy League University and other extremely competitive, very low-acceptance rate colleges. CHAMPS is a place where your discipline and drive determine your success. Academic counselors are excellent! College-guidance counseling is stellar!
CHAMPS is an amazing school, I have been here for four years and am now finishing up my senior year. Teachers are the golden thing at CHAMPS- at least, the ones who have stayed. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in the Music and Theatre academy and the English and History teachers are generally great. Math teachers could use some work but David Lee is awesome! It is an incredibly accepting and diverse school with focus on arts education and that is something so incredibly unique. In the future, I want to see the administration focus on keeping the amazing teachers (a good amount who have left) and gaining new great ones. CHAMPS is generally very safe as we have security guards constantly keeping us safe on Van Nuys Blvd. Highly recommend coming to CHAMPS, but the administration needs to improve but I'm sure this will happen with the exit of Linda Pierce.
I enjoyed CHAMPS's unique approach to schooling. Most of the teachers were professional as well. The school offered a variety of different programs, which would be otherwise difficult to find at your average high-school. CHAMPS's downside was its location and the difficulties that brought with it. A good chunk of the students was troublesome and to say it shortly, unfit to attend a high-school. Parts of the area were also considered somewhat dangerous. This isn't the administration's fault by any means. I believe CHAMPS did its best in dealing with the problems that came around. There are a few management changes that should be made, however. Particularly at the top of the school. The upper positions of the school are despised by the majority of kids and justifiably so. CHAMPS gave students a lot of fo freedom, which is amongst the best assets of the school. Students were free to leave at lunch and come back, the classes were also made to run in an independent manner.
