CJCP has some good things such as small classroom sizes, many chances to take AP classes, and is very tech savvy. The classes have a good curriculum and most of the teachers are willing to assist to the students needs. However, many things need change. They do not pay enough attention to the mental well being of their students. The administration does not care about its students unless they get into an ivy which is when they praise those select students to try to get people to come to our school. You miss out on normal high school things such as homecoming week, football games, spirit week, and pep rallies. The administration needs to be more diverse as they lack representation compared to the population of their students. Overall, academics wise it is a decent school, but a lot needs to be done still.
I have been at Central Jersey College Prep Charter School (CJCP) since I was in 6th grade. Some of the things that I did like at CJCP were the small class sizes because you were able to get a 1 on 1 with the teacher if you didn't understand the material. Another thing I liked was how dedicated our guidance counselor was to his job and helping students get into school. Some of the things I would like to see change are giving the students more freedom. As a student, I could say that coming into school some days would feel like going to prison. The school was way too strict especially when they didn't even need to be because all the students did what they needed to do and were excelling academically. I would also like to see more interest and additions to the athletic program. I say this because I attended CJCP for all these years, but everyday after school I would go to Franklin High School where I played football and ran track because my school didn't offer those sports.
My school lacks diversity. They have a lot of white students and Indian. The minorities are looked down upon. An idea would be having teachers go to workshops that include how to deal with different students and situations. A big part of students going to school feeling like they are less than is because of the administration. The core classes in my school do not include honors courses, they have dual enrollment classes that make it impossible to pass with the amount of workload they give us. They also have AP classes that are helpful if passed. All of the classes are super challenging. The electives are super boring and they don’t have anything that is based on any career field. They have basics like music and art.
