Overall my experience with academics and the teachers has been amazing! There are a lot of great programs and clubs. For the most part Central is very inclusive, however I do wish they had more inclusive facilities for the LGBT+ community(Such as gender neutral restrooms that are actually maintained and kept open).
Central provided me with four amazing years. I made so many lifelong friends and met educators who truly cared about my success. The administration is dedicated to student wellbeing and actively takes advice from the student body. although we had many students in the building, I always felt comfortable receiving one on one help in the classroom or walking past a friendly face in the hallway. It’s easy to get involved in extra curriculars and there are so many to choose from. What I find unique about Central is the advanced English education I received. I am confident that I am ready to take on college with proper writing and argumentative skills. English is not the only sufficient subject I was taught in. My math and science teachers were unmatched in their expertise and their willingness to help students achieve a high level of learning. Overall, I would recommend Central High School to anyone in the Omaha area who wants to see their child flourish both academically and personally.
Central High School to a high degree prioritizes academics, but there is a clear gap between the prioritization between AP/IB classes and regular ones. As someone who has been in both IB, honors, and regular classes I can see the staunch divide between the way certain teachers treat IB and regular students. Teachers and staff definitely play a role of favoritism there. And although the IB kids might not be better students in terms of behavior they get away with a lot more. Which does not necessarily seem fair to me, but I still have loved my time at Central High. It is placed in the best part of the city, downtown. I will miss the scenery and walks after getting out from class when I graduate. I have also had some amazing teachers who have really changed my perspective on a lot of different subjects I would have never cared about if it weren't for their passion of teaching. Some students are snobby but you get that at every high school. The bathrooms are horrible though, be warned.
