Central High School Reviews
Rating 4.16 out of 5 333 reviews
Central has plenty of pros but like any school there are cons. The majority of Central’s cons in my opinion are results of either lack of funding or poor decisions made by OPS (school district). For example, Central’s academics are as good as any school in Central’s shoes could possibly be. The problem with our academics however is twofold, there is a noticeable drop off in difficulty from class to class and year to year and it’s difficult for students to take the classes or get the teachers they want. OPS caused Central a mass exodus of teachers on top of vastly reducing the courses available for students to take. On the positive of Central there is our people. There is students from all backgrounds and there is at least one staff member for every student who makes a meaningful impact, I am fortunate enough to have had multiple teachers and other staff members truly impact my life in a positive manner. Central is huge but it still allows students to be their own meaningful individual.
Incredible school with many traditions and a lot of school spirit. One of the very best high schools in Omaha as far as education quality an oppurtuny. Large variety of available classes to take. Teachers seem proud of their school and are excited to teach.
Switch to block scheduling was a downside. Period scheduling gave more freedom in schedules and lunch hours.
Completely closed campus, which is unfortunate because of the close proximity to many great restaurants in the downown area.

Central provided me with four amazing years. I made so many lifelong friends and met educators who truly cared about my success. The administration is dedicated to student wellbeing and actively takes advice from the student body. although we had many students in the building, I always felt comfortable receiving one on one help in the classroom or walking past a friendly face in the hallway. It’s easy to get involved in extra curriculars and there are so many to choose from. What I find unique about Central is the advanced English education I received. I am confident that I am ready to take on college with proper writing and argumentative skills. English is not the only sufficient subject I was taught in. My math and science teachers were unmatched in their expertise and their willingness to help students achieve a high level of learning. Overall, I would recommend Central High School to anyone in the Omaha area who wants to see their child flourish both academically and personally.
