I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Little Rock Central High School. I have been very active in a number of organizations and school activities during my years. I currently serve as President of the student body. The last couple of years I have traveled to Baltimore, MD; Orlando, FL; Ruston, Louisiana; San Antonio, Texas to name a few, participating in national competitions and educational programs around the country in Biochemistry, Engineering and Playwriting. I was chosen to be a part of a select group of students to visit NASA, in Huntsville, Alabama, the Youth Leadership Consortium in Chicago, Illinois and participated in several educational programs in Arkansas. This summer, I was a participant in Arkansas Boy’s State and Arkansas Governor’s School.

Central High school draws students notably because of its prestige as the first integrated high school in the United States. Although the building is old and some rooms are in need of repair, Central’s academics top most of the private schools in the area. I have seen lots of students transfer to Central from private schools but not once have I met a Central student who left to attend a private school. I never feel unsafe at Central, and would recommend it to anyone, especially those coming from public middle schools.
I’m very honored and proud to be a part of the Central High School because of its historic moments with the Little Rock Nine. I like the how we have many cultures and just the diversity in Central. The big student population(2000+) doesn’t stop me from forming close relationships with the school faculty, especially the principal, Mrs. Rousseau. She always stands by the hallway with a pleasant smile on her face during breaks and if anyone needs help or encounters a problem, she’s very likely to get involved. The one thing that Central High School lacks is decent quality cafeteria food. I have been bringing my own lunch becasue the food isn’t worth the money. However, it’s still amazing to be study at a National Historic Site and I will never forget this significant experience.
