Currently, Central is going through renovations. Our air quality is very poor, teachers that have been here for years are being diagnosed with asthma and different types of cancer, and the district (Jefferson County Public Schools) is doing their best to withhold information from administration, parents, teachers, and students. During the school day, there are various construction workers working on the building, disrupting learning for everyone. At one point, some of the construction crew had stolen the copper wires, and we were without power for majority of the day. Students and staff are all disappointed with Jefferson County Public Schools, as this would not be a problem at a predominantly white school, such as Male or Manual. Our water pipes are rusty, and therefore the water is shut off in the building randomly and for hours, and there are a minor amount of water fountains.
Central High School is my second home. I felt very comfortable, productive, and I've learned a lot throughout the time I spend there. The domain factor of Central is magnets; currently, we have more than 10 Magnet. I am a Pre-Med Magnet student, and I'm in love with the programs, teachers, and our HOSA clubs, etc. I'm glad that I have the opportunity to experience in the class, as well as all the volunteer and community service; that my teacher provided to us. Not only my magnet, but also all the teachers I know are super kind and helpful, but the most precise time is when they would always repeating until we understand; or asking if we are okay. Besides, they would never leave anyone behind, reminds us, and make sure we are on a good pace in everything. I am also lucky to join the Montessori program; it is a great place to learn and share about yourself and others, including both education and life experience. Thank you for helping me grow up in almost four years of high school!
I loved our Magnet program. It truly gave students the opportunity to explore a career path in a way that will prepare you for post-secondary education. In the Law program, I started out thinking I wanted to be a lawyer. By senior year however I knew that wasn't my ideal career field. But I was still able to take dual credit classes that would save me time and money when it came to go to college, and I was able to intern at the city courthouse and make connections with many lawyers and judges. Other magnets will give you the opportunity to intern, network, and complete dual credit courses. The pre-med seniors intern at the UofL hospital on different floors and wards and gain many life skills needed for their chosen career fields. Central's magnets provide so many opportunities for you to discover your passions.
