Central Catholic High School Reviews
Rating 4.13 out of 5 241 reviews
A fantastic community exists at Central Catholic Highschool. People are motivated to put up their best effort by it. Nevertheless, some of the regulations that the institution upholds are not very logical. Rules are great, mostly because they keep people safe, but if they don't help, then what's the point? The sense of community at Central Catholic is strong, and it is lovely to see everyone involved. Numerous clubs and sports are offered. Sports, especially the well-liked ones, may be more open to all. We need more teams so that students aren't abruptly removed from their favorite sport. Central Catholic must ensure that everyone is participating in their sport and feeling involved. These modest changes can have a huge impact on the Central Catholic neighborhood. Overall, Central is a highly admirable school that is proud of its students' successes. This is really crucial, and I hope they keep upholding these principles and beliefs. I would definitely recommend to students who love it
Overall, I really enjoyed the community that Central offers. We are incredibly tight-knit, and everyone is appreciated for what they can bring to the community. That being said, I have experienced rampant instances of cliques, bullying, and unchecked behavior (primarily by male students). While we do not have a strict dress code, girls have been targeted through the principal's emails regarding what they wear. Central tries extremely hard to reach a diversity quota which has made some of my friends feel tokenized. Additionally, the Archbishop will not visit our school because of our club for LGBTQIA+ students, and Central often does not address or represent these students in fear of the Archbishop. But, Central has a lot of positive aspects too. Their arts program is what attracted me there, and I firmly believe that there is no better art program in Portland. Everyone shows up for things that aren't usually celebrated (plays, girls' sports, open mic nights).
The teachers are what make CC good. They are always there for you and want to help you, you just have to show them you need help. The coursework is definitely college prep level and the college counselor is fantastic. The students do not care about sports other than football and men's basketball. If you play any other sport, it will not be mentioned or talked about unless you win state. The schedule is a mess currently and club meetings are sparse. I almost transferred to a public high school because of my classmates and the environment created but I stayed for the teachers and admin who really cared about me. Students, advocate for yourself, your parents can not do it for you. Teachers and admin want to hear from their students not parents. Beware, there are a lot of rich white kids who are not there thinking private high school is a privilege, they are there to mess around and do nothing. Understand that the education is amazing if you work hard and make connections with teachers.
