Center Moriches High School Reviews
Rating 3.51 out of 5 84 reviews
I loved my teachers, as they really made a massive positive impact on me and pushed me to do my best. However, I had an awful experience at Center Moriches outside of my teachers' support. When I arrived at college, I felt incredibly underprepared academically compared to my peers who went to similar schools elsewhere. I felt unsupported by the administration in my goals and identity while at CM, and I experienced severe alienation and bullying throughout my time there. The new administration seems to be working towards better equity and inclusion now, but the school willingly ignored many of these issues for a long time.
I have a very strong relationship with my teachers and the rest of the staff, though many of the students lack motivation and act inappropriately. Being in the IB Programme, I am not in class with many other people, though the behavior creates an atmosphere of apathy, where education is not perceived as a priority. Aside from some students, my experience is amazing. I have been supported in creating many community service projects, and any viable idea from a student is given permission. For example, I created Team Center Moriches to attend the Tunnel 2 Towers 5K in 2021, and I am currently involved in developing a future greenhouse on school property. With the IB Programme, I feel that my education is valued and that I have been given many opportunities, but the apathetic atmosphere created by some students is certainly a downfall.
I would say Center Moriches’ downfall is the student body. While we do not have many bullies or stereotypical ‘mean kids’, A larger majority of my peers seem to have no worth in education. If you would actually like to get something out of your high school education at Center Moriches you need to be enrolled in advanced classes where our small percentage of passionate students/teachers lie. The basic curriculum regents classes are run by burnt out teachers who gave up on trying to actually teach and let the students turn the classroom into a undisciplined mess.
