For 4 years, Cedar Ridge has fostered my academics and has pushed me to be the best student I can be. I have been given so many options to jump-start my career interests and prepare me for college, from earning my Medical Assisting Certification, CPR Certification, and currently my CNA Certification through this school. It is so great that students can pick and choose what interests them, and pursue classes here that foster their interests. For the most part, my teachers are very accommodating to our needs as students, some are lenient, some are not. Overall, the administration is great!

I attended Cedar Ridge all four years of my high school career, and I had a blast. As a freshman, it was intimidating at first, but there are so many activities to get involved in--my first two years I was on the football team, I did basketball my freshman year, did theatre my junior and senior year, and was the vice president of our senior class. If I had to offer up a couple of suggestions, there are probably two things I would look to improve--when I was looking at what classes to take and seeking counselor advice, I found that they would sometimes just read right off the paper. Secondly, and this is not just for Cedar Ridge, but all high schools in general--I'd like to see more teaching for actual learning rather than a curriculum centered around AP tests. Yes, they're important to pass for college, but it leads to a learn-and-dump mentality. With that being said, not much to complain about from my high school experience!
We chose Cedar Ridge because it said on the website that Sports Medicine was one of the Academies, but after registering and finding an apartment, we found out that this wasn’t offered anymore. We were excited that there was a student athletic Training program though. The only thing is the coordinator of that program is very strict and finds any reason to eliminate students. They are expected to work several events, but if they do not attend the entire event they are given no credit. So if a student has other obligations they may miss information and be booted out of the program. There is definitely not equal opportunity for students to get this experience.
I do like the variety of other electives and the RRISD as a whole is great. There seems to be a real concern about student success and a lot of communication regarding opportunities. My child, however feels they are not challenged. Pre-Ap and AP students definitely get a more quality education experience.
