Good school! Great teachers! Very helpful and safe. They truly care for the students and want the best for them. Great language program and the auto program. The foreign language teachers are amazing, there is also a lot of opportunities to do exchange programs and study abroad that students should take advantage of. This school is very diverse and everyone is nice. I wish they would have prepared us for college a bit more, and explained the college process like applying, the common app, and encouraged students to apply to four-year universities. That is one aspect they lack on a lot, during senior year it feels as if you're on your own because there is no one really that explains especially to first-generation students. They should encourage more students to take AP classes and have events talking about college to minorities.
I’ve had a nice experience with this school. I’ve had positive experiences with most all of my teachers. There are endless extracurricular activities to join, one could never get bored at Hylton. I especially love the diversity- it feels like there are no majority/minority groups because all ethnicities attend this school! Every day at lunch, a variety of healthy foods are offered. The counselors work fairly well with you and are great in preparing you for college. Hylton offers a lot of classes, (even rare ones like Woodworking and TV Production) so it’s a nice school to attend no matter what your interests are.
There was a really bad drug and fighting problem at this school. That was until our new principal, came and helped change things. Although with new rules came big change for many. Many school bathrooms are locked due to the bad behavior from the students and an ongoing renovation. The school has been taken advantage of by whom ever the contractor is. As they refuse to get things done by the estimated date which is very frustrating for students as we have to accumulate to the changes, as well as classroom changes. Some teachers that have been working at the school for several years are used to old style rules and very much old ways of thinking. At Hylton diversity is very important, as well as exception. We do not need teachers harassing or making comments on students race, identity, or gender. As for the drug problem, as it has died down. This 2022-2023 school year has definitely turned things around for Hylton. One step at a time, the school can turn its bad reputation around.
