From Cate School

For more than 100 years, Cate has been combining the best of East Coast tradition and West Coast energy and innovation in the service of highly motivated, independent-minded kids — those who are comfortable in the company of adults, who believe in themselves and their own education, and who want something more than they can get anywhere else. They come to this place of eucalyptus trees and Newtonian mechanics, this place of sunsets, ceramics, and Salinger, this mesa between the mountains and the sea, and find it is the place for them. Maybe it is the place for you.

Cate School is a very unique school, both in terms of its scenic location atop the Mesa, but also the daily life of the student. It boosts an academically competitive environment as well as a forgiving, inclusive community. Most faculty live on campus, making them regularly available to the students and further nurturing a friendship between the two entities. The school motto “Servons” is achieved through the service work that the school persuaded their students to sign up for. It is a really great school and an excellent choice for anyone looking for a home away from home.

Cate is not perfect, no school is, but I would never change my experience for anything. I have had life changing experiences on this Mesa from scuba diving to kayaking along the coast to traveling the world. If I were to change something... I want students and teachers to have more open conversations about how to improve the school and that those suggestions are taken seriously and quickly implemented.
‘02 - I loved my time as a student at Cate - perhaps among the most rigorous and rewarding experiences of my life. I was exposed to so many new experiences, ideas and people. Most of my extended family attended (East coast) boarding schools and I think they wish they could’ve had a SoCal winter instead of a New Hampshire one! Highest recommendation. Servons
