My experience at Castlemon has been very good. I am an international student who came with a purpose and a dream to this country and Castlemon opened its doors to me and I will never forget that. Castlemont gave me the opportunity and provided me with the necessary resources to excel and learn English. What I liked most about Castlemon is the way in which they try to help each student be successful and reach their goals as well as provide resources and help us understand how everything works. What I would change about Castlemont would be the way they integrate general education students with newcomers, because even though I am already part of general education I feel that international or newcomer students are being left out. Castlemon is a home for many students that have a dream.

Castlemont was a school that every single graduate felt non prepared to enter into the college world and real world. With 4 different principals, in four different years, it was difficult to get a letter of recommendation from your own counselor, given we never really had one. The principal was required to substitute in that position, and did not come through. With many peers in the classroom and teachers with little control, it was disruptive and sometimes adverse when it came down to lecture. I can only count on one hand how many teachers I believed to be good, and this still problems looms to this day. There is an inconsistency of teachers flowing in and out, and some just going through the motions, unprepared with a legit lesson plan and execution. Oakland public schools, like Castlemont deserve and need the most attention, and assistance.
I have been going to Castlemont high school since my freshman year and I have for the most part enjoyed my experience attending this school. throughout the years of my going to CHS I've met new people and became closer to some of my friends by being apart of the CHS close community. I have made bonds with teachers and staff members that have helped my school experience better. Two of the strongest traits that Castlemont High School students have is creativity and expressing themselves. Castlemont high school has one of the strongest communities in the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD).
