CFS is a Friends school and that defines many aspects of the culture and educational approach. If you are considering this school, first consider whether a Friends school is the best fit for your child and family.
We chose CFS because we wanted a smaller, friendlier environment for our daughter who started high school here. In addition, our younger son also started middle school here. We are in the first year of our experience so we don't have the success bias of those who have attended 4 or more years of school here.
Pros:
1. Small class size, friendly teachers
2. Safe school atmosphere, no bullying
3. Eclectic campus
4. Kids are treated as adults, and are given responsibility for their own learning
Cons:
1. Classes are too easy, kids do homework if they feel like it
2. Small community to make friends with limited social life
3. Expensive with some of the best teaching done by software that you can subscribe to for a fraction of the cost

I love, love, love Carolina Friends School! It has been truly life-changing for me. Many say that it's an "easy" school--I entirely disagree. To outsiders, it may seem hard to fail, but that is only because the staff is so loving and supportive of their students.
Despite feeling the typical stress and anxiety around college admissions, I feel prepared and supported to submit my applications, graduate and attend university next year. The staff and administration have been incredibly supportive throughout the year, helping with essays, college interviews, testing and college visits. I'm going to miss this place!
