Carmel Catholic.... I graduated from Carmel in 2014 and I thought I would put this review out for other minorities considering attending. I encountered multiple racial attacks, ie being spit on, having chocolate milk thrown at me, and endless racial slurs and discriminatory behavior that made me uncomfortable and outraged. Regardless of how much you try to fit in, it will be something everyday reminding you that you dont. With this, it was a constant battle with the Dean to take action other than having the offending student write an "apology letter". The school needs to be more transparent about racial matters in addressing them, disciplinary actions, and finding ways to support their minority students through the trauma that happens there. Aside from the trauma, the curriculum and experiences did prepare me to thrive and advocate at my Historically Black University.

I met some of my best friends at Carmel and had a very positive experience overall. The majority of my teachers were excellent and truly cared about their students and what they were teaching. I was able to take AP classes and get college credit from AP exams. In addition, I was able to participate in multiple clubs and sports teams that allowed me to meet new people and have fun outside the classroom. There were many leadership opportunities, and I enjoyed all of the community service I was able to participate in. In addition, I knew I was in a safe environment where I could be myself.
While I was attending, I'm not sure I appreciated the education I received. I blame it on being a teen! Now, years later I'm grateful for the rigorous academic and behavior standards, and the community provided by Carmel. I was active in the arts during my time there and since I've been pleased to see an investment from the school in this area. When I attended my university, I felt I was a step up from my peers even while attending a high-ranking school. Overall, some of my best educational and professional habits were formed here- read: to-the-point one-page papers with strict margins and strictly graded speeches. These types of things are what made it easy for me to write lengthy research papers, go on interviews, etc. Also, the intro to freshman year and not knowing everyone when walking in the first day was an amazing social tool in my first year of college. I would highly recommend sending a student here if it's a potential option for a parent.
