This school is average. There’s nothing here that you couldn’t find at your local public school except for the religious aspect. Talk about gentrification, the school is located in Brockton yet the population of the school is majority white and rich. The diversity is rated an A but the school is about 1/3 people of color. If you are black or another person of color expect to have a racist encounter during your 4 years. The dress code is ridiculous and sexist. Girls can’t even wear leggings or yoga pants because they don’t want the males to be ‘distracted’. You can’t even express yourself at this school with hair colors or simple piercings. The lunches are repetitive and too expensive for what it’s worth. A couple of stale fries should NOT be $2. Although I’m not religious, the religion at this school is the best part.

I’m not a religious person, I’ve never been one. I’ve always found religion restricting and unnecessary. However, I will admit, the environment of this school is strong. Everyone usually knows of everyone. This school requires effort with some classes. Some of the teachers are going to be tough with you. I’m currently a senior and I’m on my way out in only three months. While I had hardships, I am going to miss Spellman. The people were lively and I felt apart of something despite being usually by myself. The school is open minded for Catholics (IMO). If you aren’t religious or believe in a different religion or LGBT don’t let it discourage you.
My experience was ok. There were some good things about the school but also things that made going there really hard for me. The school is a preppy environment and basically if you are not white, rich, sporty, or astounding in one of the arts you may fall to the sidelines. The population is mostly white and preppy so it makes it hard for kids who are different to find there place. They do try, but they are not even close to being equipped to handle kids who do not fall within the main demographics at spell-man. You do develop a good relationship with the teachers, but many of them don’t have the tools and resources needed to handle students who need extra emotional support. Since faith is so essential to the environment I think they tend to forget that faith alone does not help kids who struggle with mental health. There were actually times when I loved Spellman, but it may not be the best school for people who may feel like the odd one out in that sort of population.
