From Cardigan Mountain School

Cardigan Mountain School is a boarding and day school for boys in grades 6, 7, 8, and 9 in Canaan, New Hampshire.

We understand and appreciate boys at this great age and stage of development. We’ve created an environment designed to nurture not only their academic achievement, but also their physical, social, ethical, and personal growth. Everything here—from teaching and learning to arts, sports, and fun—is geared toward helping boys reach their potential.

We offer boys just the right amounts of structure and independence, challenge and support, and a focus on both individual growth and a strong, positive sense of community. This time-tested, comprehensive approach to the education of boys is what we call the Cardigan Way.

PEAKS Program

PEAKS is an acronym for Personalized Education for the Acquisition of Knowledge and Skills, a cornerstone of the Cardigan academic program. All students, regardless of grade level or academic standing, take PEAKS. PEAKS teaches each student to identify their individual strengths and challenges to become a better, more efficient learner and self-advocate.

I had three (very different) boys attend Cardigan Mountain School. They all had a wonderful experience! This school really gave them the foundation for their education. Our boys speak about "things they learned at Cardigan" that helped them in the classroom, academically, dorm life, socially and athletically not only in prep school, but even at the college level. The faculty and staff truly learned who my boys were individually and cared about them as people. They were able push and support them in a way us as parents could not.

Our two sons attended Cardigan. They totally "get" middle school boys. Our boys grew in incredible ways, academically, athletically, and as young men of strong character. The faculty are the coaches and the dorm parents. They really know the boys and are able to help them develop into the young men we all want to see in our sons. Best move we ever made!
Cardigan was a great match for our two boys. While they initially thought they were attending Cardigan because of the excellent sports, we wanted them to go to Cardigan because it was a complete learning experience in terms of academics, athletics and the arts. Our boys had their own distinct learning styles with different strengths and weaknesses. Cardigan met them where they were and helped them to discover how best they learned - and the teachers constantly challenged and supported them on their journey. We not only loved the balance of academics, sports and the arts, but also the character development and leadership opportunities. Now that they have graduated and excelled at the next level, we can attribute much of their success to their middle school years at Cardigan.
