Caprock Academy is a highly competitive classical charter school. The classes are based on a classic curriculum that does not adhere to the states, i.e. to graduate one must have two consecutive language credits. Latin, French, and Spanish are options. The curriculum is rough with AP classes and other extracurricular activities as well as minimum service hours. The teachers are some of the best, each with distinct personalities and teaching styles, which can both be positive and negative. The smaller adjoining buildings get cramped; however, there is a new building being constructed for the next school year. The electives are interesting, for example, “History of Conflict” which studies warfare and differentiation of Western and Eastern styles of warfare. Different other classes include band, choir, studio art, and theater/technical theater. The staff is always looking out for the welfare of their students.

Caprock Academy is a K-12 charter school located in the average-sized city of Grand Junction, Colorado. I have attended Caprock Academy since my Sophomore year of high school. At first, it was difficult to adjust to the different environment of Caprock, where it is required that high school students take at least one year of Latin and read difficult pieces of literature such as "Crime and Punishment" and "Moby Dick". Reading this literature and taking these classes, however, has taught me the value and importance of a good education. Also, due to the small class sizes, I have been able to make good relationships with my teachers. Although Caprock does not receive a lot of funding and they do not have the same amount of clubs and extracurricular activities that are offered at other schools, Caprock's staff and teachers truly do care about their students, and whatever resources they do have will be used towards benefiting your future.
I have gone to Caprock Academy since I was in first grade. Now, I am a senior at the high school. I love the school for many reasons; the academic rigor allows me to challenge myself and read books that are not available in a normal schools curriculum; the size of the classroom allows you to have a very active classroom and one-on-one conversations with the teacher; the uniform doesn't allow for discrimination or bullying due to someone's economic standing. The one thing I would like to see change in is the math studies. Although there are exceptions, the teachers and books usually just do not teach you adequately and I think that's the only thing that I have been unsatisfactory with.
