A college preparatory school with a lot of opportunity to grow intellectually. Many subjects offered including Malone Educational Classes which Canterbury is the only Indiana school chosen by Malone to have the Malone teaching program. Every student that graduates from Canterbury goes on to a four year institution or college program. It’s a wonderful school!
Overall, the school is right in some ways to claim its fame that teachers strongly focus on students. It's a largely personal experience between the two parties which is something I like. The teachers are generally very good, driving students to fully understand topics through deep discussion. If additional help is needed, they're always there. One thing I might add is that at times the workload is rather excessive. Depending on the student, the culture here pushes students to take on lots of difficult classes at once leading to filled schedules and later burnout. This might be a communication error, but I think more could be done. Otherwise, lots of freedom is afforded to students, and there are many events at school which is nice. The community vibe is real.
The teachers are great but the workload is excessive at times. The school slogan is "Artist Athlete Scholar" but it feels like you can really only pick two if you have a full schedule or take a few APs, but I can think of a few outliers.
In my experience, having about 3 hours of sports related activities per night paired with anything between 2-5 hours of homework is extremely draining after a while. I still want to have time to do the things I like.
Finally, the students are a mixed bag. There were always a few bad apples as there are anywhere, but I feel that COVID exposed the true nature of students. The outside rumors aren't entirely true that everyone is rich and entitled, but it's a pretty large fraction. Too many seem to believe that they're above the pandemic and measures to control it, either because they're too deep into their own world to care or because they don't actually understand science.
Personally, I wouldn't go through it again.
