Canisius HS has a core curriculum without much flexibility and tries to make students fit within their core program. They keep it simple which has some merit. Biggest issues - technology, funding for academic resources, hw/grading policies:
1. use/dependency on iPad -not intended/never designed for student use 8+ hours per day. Imagine doing all from a little screen/toggling back and forth between docs. Need to switch to chrome books or mac book air.
2. lack of funding to academics - we requested access to books from a home computer to make homework more efficient but they don't allow - only 1 license/student - school has a budget ~ $60 per student for books despite tech fee on top $15k tuition. Won't even permit us to pay for an extra license on our own.
3. varying rules on due dates for homework by teacher, allowing submission very late. Creates laziness, teachers behind on grading, missing grades/grade disputes, the end of each quarter so painful for all, incl. parents watching!

Cannot rate this school highly enough. my son transferred in after his sophomore year. The school at large, teachers, admin, students alike all welcomed him with open arms and really made him feel like part of the brotherhood immediately. He was an athlete and honor roll student. he is now playing D1 collegiate athletics and feels very confident going into it because of the preparation both in the classroom and on the field, that canisius provided. As a parent I really appreciate the feeling of family that this wonderful place provides. My wife and I consider ourselves honored that we had the privilege to send our son there.
I’ve had a great time at Canisius High School. The teachers are great. I’ve been able to take advanced classes which have helped to formulate my future plans and goals. The counselors have been awesome with helping decide on schedule and to direct college decision making. There are many clubs and sports available. The school truly feels like a community.
