Great teachers and curriculum. I felt like I was able to pace myself appropriately with the given deadlines and assignments. Teachers would always host live classes for you to optionally attend, in case you need the extra help or not. They always answered my emails and some will even let you schedule extra study time with them so you can get live help out of class hours.
Easy and straight forward. You can work on your own time. Attendance is very encouraged, but if you miss a class you can always just watch the recordings that they post.
Based on my experience, CAVA is an excellent platform for the online format for K-12 education. The instructors are very involved, including the staff and support assistants. The only change I would make for students to be more successful would be to upgrade the computer system and find another conference application that is far more user-friendly than the platform they currently use.
Diverse, inclusive and challenging, it takes time to learn the computer system, but the teachers are fabulous. My son was below grade in math, We switched and the extra help from the teachers brought him above grade level. Can't say enough about the great teachers, kept classes going even when the state shut the school for coronavirus.
Great teachers and lots of class options. Everybody are understanding and helpful. I love the flexibility of taking classes online and I feel like CAVA strives to improve for its students every year :D
It is a decent school. The teachers are nice and teach and help students t the best of their ability. There aren't enough clubs but there are lots of electives. The homework is more than a normal school but you have all day to do it whereas in a normal school you would have to get home first and then do the work. The people are nice and there are a good number of outings where we can meet our class mates. The only thing I don't like about the school is that it's not very flexible. They are always on my tail about attendance. I once missed a day of school becuase I was sick and they threatened to kick me out. They have gotten a lot better about recognizing people have lives outside of school but it could still be improved.
I liked that the teachers are always there to help when you need them and they are all very considerate and understanding.
It allowed me space to be present in all aspects of my education and take control of it. Even if the teachers weren't present I was still able to finish all assignments. I was able to complete my education in the comfort of my own home.
I enjoyed the ability to self pace and learn when I wanted to rather than the confined slower or faster pace of a brick and mortar school.
Most of the teachers have been great and this format of schooling is perfect for my family. The public schools in my area are under-funded and have very poor academics, so homeschooling seemed like the only option. I learned that homeschooling like this is a good option anyway. I love that I have a lot of freedom with my schedule as well as the opportunity to interact with my teachers and other students in real time.
I joined CAVA my sophomore year. Before that I had gone to school in the same school district for my entire school life and once I got to high school I could tell that it was no longer fit for me. CAVA has great resources available and amazing teachers, but it's up to the student to utilize them. There were so many classes available that I would never have been able to take at my brick and mortar school. All in all CAVA is a great online high school experience.
Currently, I am an undergraduate attending San Jose State University. I spent three years at California Virtual Academy at San Joaquin and graduated with High Dean Hounorals every semester I attended at CAVA. I am grateful for the opportunity K12 gave me, they gave me a completely unique school option. I did not feel alone at all, the homeroom teachers were extremely supportive and connective. Any question I had word immediately be answered regarding CAVA. I did attend a brick and mortar school, although the one I had attended had great counselors their teachers had no passion. When I attend an online class session in any CAVA course all my professors have evident passion and this is inspiring. This school prepped me for college life and I am grateful to have been a part of it.
I love CAVA@San Joaquin! The teachers are very kind and are almost always within reach. The Guidance Counselors are very helpful too, and try their very best to make sure you reach your goal. My only problem is, that sometimes the website doesn't work well, but that's usually fixed within a few hours. Overall, CAVA is a great school.
Since CAVA-San Joaquin is an online school, the safety policies are different from traditional schools. At CAVA students are not allowed to share personal information, such as: phone numbers, email addresses, or social media account names. CAVA also has an Anti-bullying policy and the students and teaching staff do a great job at enforcing the prevention of cyber-bullying.
The extracurricular opportunities offered at CAVA-San Joaquin are all online. There are many different clubs to choose to participate in many categories like: Foreign Language, Hobbies, and Scholastic. Students also get the opportunity to run for Student Council and Homeroom Representative.
The flexibility of the school and the curriculum are what make CAVA- San Joaquin unique and different from other schools. I enjoy attending CAVA, however I wish there was more peer interaction outside of the online classrooms.
Knowledgeable, show interest in student progress.
