I loved how flexible it was with when to turn in assignments. They let me know when my assignments were overdue but I could still turn them in on my own time without getting points docked. If I could change something it would be that the lessons should feel more personal and less like they are reading a script.
Method of learning convenient, but if you were in an abusive/homophobic housing situation like me there is literally no way to talk to teachers without your every word automatically relayed to your parents which is quite frankly dangerous. Have attempted to talk about my diagnosed mental illnesses in the short minutes you get at the end of a class session to be brushed off with "we don't do that for that." Later I was diagnosed with a literal disease and suffering as a result with many symptoms that left me unable to catch up for months and my PTSD causing lack of sleep and was given no accommodations and merely given their regards and told to hurry along. My psychiatrists did not agree with this school's handling for years whatsoever. But if you're neurotypical and have none of above, you may have a good experience.
I loved this school. It was great and it provided me with so many great life opportunities. I would suggest this to everyone and anyone. Its a great school. Everyone is so nice and all the teachers are so helpful. It helps me find great colleges.
I like California Virtual Academy because my schedule is more flexible than your typical brick and mortar school.
I genuinely think this school is very great. It helps to be one on one because you can email your counselor when needed & teachers as well. It bring families closer together too. It take a bit of time to get used too but when you do , it’s a great school.
It was an amazing experience, I got to work at my own pace(faster than most kids), I was sheltered from kids who would bully me for being autistic, and I made many quality friends.
I love the way they give the students freedom to decide their future and navigate around that. I do wish they would be more level-headed on how much homework/class work they give us because it can usually override one another with the different classes a student has going on and how many classes there is usually throughout the day.
I attended off and on for many years. I think there is a stigma around online school and a misconception that it does not provide a quality education the same way public/private school will. I disagree with this because it was not the experience I had. However, I did feel like the history classes could have gone into more depth into historic events and not just discuss the ones we always hear about. I also liked the fact that there was some guidance in prepping the students for college. I found that very useful and was even able to learn of concurrent enrollment. Through that I was able to enroll in college for my first semester while finishing up my senior year at CAVA. I can also recall receiving a kindle in the mail from them to encourage me to read more. which I did. A lot.
I appreciated the leniency of working on your own and the teachers being understanding of hard circumstances. I felt respected as a student and heard by my mentors.
I love attending this school. I am currently in my ninth year at CAVA. The teachers and courses are amazing. I have learned time management and self motivation.
I loved California Virtual Academy because I was able to tailor my education to my interests. For example, instead of basic French and Spanish language classes offered at a brick and mortar school, I took Japanese for two years. This opened the doors for me to currently attend Meiji University in Toyko, Japan as a transfer Global Japanese Studies major. Online school with CAVA promotes special discipline and organization needed to succeed in life! The flexibility is also priceless.
I attended this online school from middle school to high school and it is a very good online school. Teachers are both eager to teach and help students every step of the way.
I would like to see more clubs and academic societies. I myself am a member of the National Honors Society, but I would like the school to have others. I would also like to see more in-person involvement, such as outings and field trips.
I have been going to Cava for a little over 2 years now and I have a great experience. The teachers are nice and helpful and create an amazing atmosphere.
The curriculum here at this school is amazing; at this school, I learned many things I wouldn't have learned in public school. The teacher and staff are very helpful, friendly, and are open to your questions and concern at anytime. Since this is an online charter school, you can connect and discuss topics with with many students from different backgrounds in a family friendly setting through online discussion boards and Blackboard. Another benefit is the flexible schedule, so you can do homework at anytime if you have a busy schedule. There are also many fun clubs and activities to participate in throughout the school year. My sisters and I have been here for nearly 4 years, and I have to say that I highly recommend this school to any families seeking a higher education for their children and with very busy schedules.
CAVA is a great school and you can always get the help you need. They have many clubs and help sessions and make it easy to succeed.
I like that my son can work at a pace that is best for him. The smaller online classes allow him to have more time with his teacher. It helps him not be overlooked in a overcrowded classroom.
