My experience at California Virtual Academy at Maricopa was the best thing I could have done. I was able to complete the high school courses that I needed while attending college courses to further my higher education goals in a cost effective method. The teachers were excellent and my overall experience was suburb.
California Virtual Academy at Maricopa is a great public online school for students of all ages. This school offers many AP classes and has easy access to lessons, homework, and Class Connect Sessions. Teachers and counselors are always interacting with students and are also easy to access. Overall, my first year experience at CAVA has been great. One thing I would like to change or suggest is to add a drama elective or acting classes. I enjoy acting, but the school does not offer any drama courses as of now.
As a student it was really awesome to have teachers that were excited about their subjects, making Chemistry and English fun for me. The flexibility of the online school gave me more responsibility of scheduling and balancing personal and academic life. By being online it allowed me to get through HS in three years.
I have always loved this home school. They provide meaningful videos and lesson quizzes which are easy to take and make you learn a lot. I wouldn't want anything to change. I love all my teachers, they are super nice and amazing.
The best thing about choosing California Virtual Academies is the individualized learning plan you receive and they way your education is really tailored to you. I started the program in middle school and was able to finish junior college when I should have been graduating high school, because I was able to take courses faster and concurrently enroll. I loved every single teacher I had, they really care about you and your learning experience, and are excited to prepare you for your journey through college.
I think that California Virtual Academies was great. By making the curriculum rigorous it really did prepare me for college.
Over all it was a wonderful 2 years for me. I was able to graduate early. The teachers were amazing and flexible to each of my needs as a student. If I needed extra sessions they did all they could to help tutor me so I could get the understanding I needed.
There are some options for extracurricular activities, but since it is an online high school, there are not many since there is a significant barrier.
The unique quality that my school has that others don't is that my school gives you the freedom to work at you own pace, whether it is slower or faster than the rest of the students. It helps to give students independence in their lives. I do wish, however, that I had a more sociable environment, instead of a computer desk, I do have an option of hanging out with other home-schooled students, but it isn't the same as a traditional school. I do, however stay out of trouble and don't get too distracted with friends or other students, so that is a pro.
