The laughing stock of local schools in rural southern Colorado. If you have any other option, consider it.
id like to see a little less politics involved with the activities, but as a school, and a small town school at that, its a good school.
I liked how the community is involved in every way and how personal the teachers get. What I did not like was sometimes the school lunch was to small to get a meal out of.
Its hard in a small school to offer a lot with financial support.
Our teachers are very knowledgeable and care about students.
It's a great school for being in a small town. There aren't a lot of choices when it comes to sports or elective classes but it makes up for it
I do love my high school. It's easy to get to a first-name level with all of your teachers. This comes in handy when you need help on some homework or studying for a test. I like knowing everyone in high school and maintaining a somewhat good relationship with most of them. Also, it is easy to compete for community scholarships considering about four of the thirty students in a class will also apply. However, some of the faults about going to a small school is the lack of college, or AP classes that are available to sign up for. Also, it is difficult to get recognized by bigger schools for sports or more universal/important scholarships. Besides these small set backs, I have had an amazing time at Calhan High. The teachers are helpful, the students mostly your teammates, and the most of the student body could be your neighbor. I would 100% choose to attend this school again if I had the privilege of redoing high school all over again.
The teachers are friendly and they want to help you succeed.
I loved attending this school. It is very tight knit community, but once you're in you're in. The staff is amazing. I spent three and a half short years here and I don't regret any of it. My high school experience was not your typical one; if I had gone to any other school my life would not be the same as it is today.
The lunch is very short to encourage students to stay on campus but the food is average and the lunch room does not accommodate all of the students in the high school.
Some too close with students and not consistent with grading.
The track & weight room are very outdated.
The clubs do not do very much to help students.
We are involved in a great food program that has a criteria for what foods we can have a how much fruit and protein.
Calhan School is a very small school, overall we have pretty good feedback. Being a small school, it depends on who you are, not your talent, which is unfair. Sometimes athletes forget that they are student athletes and not athlete students.
Over all my school isn't the worst, but it does have some things wrong with it. Being a senior, this is the first year that our guidance counselor has been most involved with the senior class and being helpful towards graduation and looking into colleges. Isn't that what we are supposed to do before senior year? I thought our senior year was going to be about looking at college applications, scholarships knowing what college we are going to attend, and knowing that we will be on track to graduate. This year along with past years, a few students had to double up on classes their senior year just to get the requirement to graduate because they didn't know they were short a credit.
The school has just been redesigned and makes it easier to get around the school for the students.
