This school has the most talented students in all of Delaware! The kids here are very dedicated and serious about their music/art and their studies. 100% of students graduate every year, and at least 1 graduate goes on to top universities like Brown, NYU, Harvard, etc. There are no sports teams, you play for the Charter School of Wilmington teams (great soccer, horrible football team). Gospel Choir, Steel Drums, The Hispanic Student Association, Marching Band (2021 Atlantic Coast Champions), Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble (select band) and select Jazz Band are some clubs/programs I was apart of and recommend joining. However, CCSA lacks diversity. CCSA is mostly East Asians, South Asians & Whites. There are few Blacks and barely any Hispanics (Only 5/120+ Hispanic students in the class of 2023). About 70% of students are female, & 90% of the school seems to be ideologically liberal. CCSA probably has the largest lgbtq+ community in DE. (The statistics are not factual, just my guesses)
I love Cab! It is such a fantastic support environment, and the teachers are really great. I have been spoiled going to school at Cab: it is so inclusive, and all opinions, cultures, and types of people are accepted! The faculty and staff care so much about the safety and well being of the students and everyone really wants their peers and classmates to succeed. The arts and academics truly do unite at Cab Calloway School of the Arts!
Cab Calloway truly represents a community in which academics and art unite. The liberal arts-style education allows students to engage in a wide variety of courses that may lead to a potential career pathway. Most teachers are dedicated to the success of the students, offering extra help hours, study guides, and additional resources. Students are given the option to personalize their educational experience to better suit their desired rigor through CP, Honors, and/or AP classes. LGBTQ+ students are well-represented and protected at this school, myself included. Special interest clubs and organizations such as Free To Be You, Chess Club, NHS, etc. are available to students who seek to utilize their passion(s) to engage with others. Overall, I've enjoyed the freedom this school has given me to grow both in an academic and social sense. Coming from a student who was scared to buy lunch for fear of being too bothersome, Cab does a great job of carefully opening the shell of its students.
