Overall, McClatchy has provided me with a great high school experience. Dedicated teachers and advanced classes have prepared me well for college, and I've had many positive experiences at McClatchy. However, with the problematic administration, the school is not functioning as well as it has the potential to. The scandals have negatively impacted the students. Academics are McClatchy's strong point, whereas providing students with a safe and healthy environment is a weakness. The introduction of Assistant Principal Martin was much needed to the complicated and, to some, corrupt administration. Overall, McClatchy is a good school, and offers a variety of academic programs designed for students to succeed. The teachers are wonderful and dedicated, there are just major internal problems needing to be fixed.

The school has many hits and misses. If a student is in an academic program, they will receive better teachers and a better learning environment. Those teachers reach out and try to help the students as much as they can. The peers are more motivated to learn, creating a lovely learning atmosphere. If you are not in those programs, the chances to receive those two listed are low.
The administration is horrible. There is an unspoken tension between the administration and teachers. Not many people like the administration and try to stay from them as much as possible.
Safety is not guaranteed. There have been two shooting threats directed at the school. The school is on the news in trying to clear up its controversy.
So far my experience at school has been okay. I am in two programs, VAPA and HISP. With VAPA I am able to take art for all four years of high school with a track geared to help with finding the style of art that best suits us. With HISP I am able to have an English and History class that is more advanced with the curriculum. Things that I would like to see a change in is having more opportunities for advanced classes for someone that was not able to get into the programs. Also, while I personally do not have this issue others that I know have trouble using genderneutral bathrooms because they have to find a teacher to unlock the door or they have to go through a classroom to get to it so they are uncomfortable using it.
