I really loved this school, I wouldn't suggest going there for a really long time especially if you want to attend sports and have big extracurricular activities. However if you want a small family and good bonds I would suggest it, and I have had a great experience here and wouldn't change all the memories or experiences for any other school. Again their only down side is the lack of extracurricular activities and sports. So this small school is a really good place to get started and build good strong bonds!
Byron Center Charter has changed my life- for the better. All of my teachers gave me personal accommodations. Growing up in a school system with 2 anxiety disorders and a tic disorder, school has always been a struggle for me. My teachers have worked with me one-on-one to help me catch up on missing work and explain concepts I would have spent hours trying to understand on my own. Aside from the teachers, I have grown together with my class. Currently, there are 8 juniors that I would call my family. Who do I turn to when I'm having a hard day? One of my classmates. They never fail to make me smile and provide a safe place to be my authentic self. When I come into school having a bad day, I always leave the building at the end of the day with a smile and feeling loved. BCCS is a family, and I cannot explain it to the fullest extent unless you saw it for yourself.
The teachers truly care about the kids and do their best to get the kids to learn. Small classes gives kids personal attention and extra help if needed. If a kid feels left out or if there is a kid being mean or such it is seen and dealt with promptly.
There are fun after school activities like dances, gingerbread house building, ultimate frisbee and more. The high school band program is high quality.
The down side is that they don't have many extracurricular programs like sports or clubs. They also don't have many choices for electives in high school but they do offer online dual enrollment which is GREAT for kids who are college bound.
I feel it was the best decision I could have made for my kids.
