Most of the teachers are either unassertive, inexperienced, unmotivated, or all of the above. That, coupled with a complete absence of a set curriculum, results in poor academics, with students who retain little information and feel unmoved to learn more.
Buxton's art facilities are great. Though the arts seem to dominate the culture at this self-proclaimed "art school", most of the art which is produced here-- from painting, to sculpture, to chorus, to theater, is underwhelming, and often just outright poor.
A large percentage of students have histories of substance abuse, depression, and other mental illnesses; the lack of structure and discipline at Buxton enables them to regularly indulge in bad habits.
Though Buxton's population is diverse, the community is divided, riddled with animosity between cliques, demographics, and ages.

Upon entering this community I was suddenly so involved with every aspect of learning. I transferred from public high school and the contrast was incredible. During my time here, I have been challenged in and outside of the classroom, to question who I am and changes I want to make in my life and in the world around us. Because truly, within such a small student body every action is felt and valued here.
Buxton is a place for the self motivated. Your experience here is honestly what you make it. You will find mostly everyone here is accepting and supportive, and I have never felt more comfortable to be myself than at this school. Buxton is also very art oriented, it is held in high regards from students and faculty. With it's liberal nature in terms of academics, deadlines, and the exempt of grades, I have found most graduates feel shaky their first year of college, and this is my one critique in terms of academic structure.

This is a great, secluded school in the Berkshire area. Buxton, being a preparatory school, prepares you for many aspects of life beyond high school and even college. Academics are invigorating and are perfect for students looking to be challenged, although academic support is a big part of life here as well.
