I’ve been here since 1st grade, I’m going to be in the first graduating class. With a smaller school, students have more opportunities to learn. The teachers actually try to teach in a variety of ways. I have paved the way for the next generation of students. They rarely have discipline problems. There have been no fights. My school’s mission is to cultivate learners and leaders to be inspired, able, and prepared to make a positive difference in the world. They have done that, they still do that.
The teachers, staff and administration are amazing and create a "family-like" culture. Students are respectful and work hard. There is one-to-one technology for all students and a high level of STEM activities. Hydroponics, Aquaponics, Aeroponics, greenhouse and raised beds are embedded into the Ag-Sci curriculum for all grade levels. Garden to table program is part of the healthy lunch program and all students have access to a fresh salad bar daily. The school family cares about each other and makes all students and parents welcomed.
We started in a local public school that we loved, until the county assigned a new principal. She made a lot if changes, which included limiting parent involvement. Then we found Burns Science & Technology School. This is the best k-8 school in Volusia County. Great teachers, staff, special area teachers... Etc. I can not say enough how much we love this little gem of a school.
