Most teachers care a lot, and there is a lot of diversity. I learned a lot from going there. Made a lot of friends
I was able to meet some of my best friends at Burke. To have a good experience there I think it is really important to get involved, if not in a sport then in one of the many clubs they have available.
Overall, it's a decent school. Although teachers can be passive, aggressive, they're nice for the most part. It's stated that Burke is "the most diverse high school" in Omaha, I wouldn't necessary validate this notion, however I have not attempted to challenge their logistics. If you are a promising athlete, this is the school for you. They cater to all of their athletics - especially football. Burke is similar to that of any other high school, so long as you're social and attempt to join in extracurricular activities or sports you'll do well.
The teachers and students are what make this school great. There is a stark difference between honors and regulars classes, however, that leave non-honors students behind as far as education. The building itself is nice and has had parts remodeled. There are plenty of activities for students to get involved in.
Burke has gotten better throughout my years there but overall didn't handle bullying well, wether that be students bullying students or teachers bullying students. However I did always feel welcomed by most of the staff there, especially councilors. Plus the theatre program was top tier.
Going to Burke High School was an experience that I’ll never forget. I’ve made so many memories there. The teachers are absolutely fantastic. They put you first and do everything they can to help you succeed. There is also so much school pride and it’s a great environment.
My experience at Burke has been one to remember. I have been blessed with overall the best teachers and an administration that loves me dearly. They have pushed me to my full potential the past 2 1/2 years. I'm glad I chose Burke as my high school.
Burke High School is simply amazing. The diversity is extraordinary, because we are in west Omaha, and there are people here from all over the city! All the teachers I have met at Burke have been incredibly helpful and so, so kind! I have been given many opportunities to join different organizations and clubs, and my high school experience has been elevated due to all of these extracurricular activities. The people I’ve met throughout my high school years are amazing. I am glad I made the right decision to go to Burke!
Overall, Burke High has been pretty kind to me; there are a lot of classes that were fun and interesting for me, even if it was a boring subject improved by an exceptional teacher. its the only school in Omaha Public Schools which offers AP Art History, a topic which i've decided to spend the rest of my life studying. the lunch is as horrendous as any school food, but there was a salad/sandwich bar my first two years which i miss having as an alternative when the only thing offered is a crusty fake-beef patty with no bun. i joined book club, and showed up on Saturdays to build sets for the plays and musical, which are a great way to spend free time. of course there's the problem of safety. in 2018 a student was stabbed in the basement. that story i'snt mine to tell, but the only thing the school did to update security was add an extra set of doors at the entrance and hire another security guard. these things don't usually happen twice so i'm not too worried, but its always possible.
While in 8th grade, multiple representatives from different high schools across the area came to our school to share information and give insight to what their school is like. Not really knowing what I wanted and where I wanted to go, I simply chose the school that was closest to me and the one that most of my friends and people I was familiar with were going to. Though I picked out Burke High School in spite of that, I am more than pleased with the decision I made. Burke has many opportunities that are unique from other schools- such as a planetarium, an air and space academy where you can earn your pilots license before graduating, child development and educators classes, pre requisite classes for journalism, a newspaper/digital journalism and yearbook staff, great sports coaches and training and much more. At Burke, there is also a lot of racial diversity and it is great to have that! I am proud to be a bulldog. Burke has faced a lot, such as a stabbing, but we are a strong family.
Burke High School has given me many opportunities. Burke is one of the only schools in the nation with a planetarium, giving students who are planning to major in Astronomy a higher advantage of education. Burke also offers many AP classes which are good for preparation for college and allow you to earn college credits, which prepares you for your future. Our athletics are one of the best in state, with some of the best coaches in the state that allow students to reach their full potential. Staff and teachers care about students but it’s sometimes hard to get the extra help they need.
I love attending Burke High School. There is a strong sense of family and love, however, there is lots of room for growth. There have been multiple instances where administration has mistreated students and projected their personal beliefs onto students as a form of disciplinary action. I believe that our administration needs to support and believe students and listen when they call for action and help. There have also been multiple dangerous events that could have been prevented if proper safety was implemented.
For the most part, I loved my experience at burke. There were some times where I felt that certain staff members were unfair to students but overall you can see the care and compassion in the teachers and administration
I’m a current junior and I don’t even know if we will be back in school for the senior year. I’ve had a fine time here. There isn’t really school spirit but I hope that everyone can come together and make the atmosphere better .
It has been a good 4 years at this school for me. My favorite part about being here at Burke High School is the diversity among the people. There are a lot of cultures that get a chance to shine 7 show off what makes them special. I've made quite a few friendships here that are sure to last a long time for years to come. One thing I would like to see change is that they do away with the Advisement class entirely. Advisement class is a 20-minute waiting period between the end of the first class & the beginning of the nest. This system was created so that the teachers in these classes could tell students about their classes and their progress in each. I feel like this is an unnecessary system because students can easily check their progress for themselves on Infinite Campus. Plus it serves as a waste of time for the students & teachers who could be using those 20 minutes for their next class. Other than that, Burke High School was a good time, and I hope to one day come back and see it.
My experience of Burke High School was honestly one of the hardest years of my life but it was also a great learning experience. First Burke taught me how to be accountable showing me that I must take responsibility of my actions by introducing to different opportunities and showing the me the way to go with the support of friendly teachers and the greatest counselors ever. What's so great about the staff is the level of kindness shown it rubs on you to be just as kind as well, and the school makes you feel welcomed into all curricular activities which led me to be involved in school so much. Regarding the teachers they're also very supportive and always are available to help when you need it. Overall Burke is a great school but if I could change anything about school it would be allowing students to have more individuality like allowing students to show their personalities by dictating clubs, having more arts like art, music, dance and etc.
Burke, to an extent is what you make of it but they could do more. They tend to prioritize students who are already promising and take credit for their success instead of actually supporting the kids who need it. They're good for show, It's very much so an environment in which it seems polished and pretty from the outside but it's actually chaotic and messy inside.
