Burke High School Reviews

I really enjoyed the school spirit that my surrounded myself and my school. The bonds that I have created with my teachers is something that I can carry with me forever. They have become great resources that I can use in the future. Burke has created a positive environment for both my academic and mental abilities. Burke has taught me social and financial skills that have become useful. I have also met some great friends that I can forever cherish through my time at Burke High School. I highly recommend everyone going to Burke because it is a great experience!
While in 8th grade, multiple representatives from different high schools across the area came to our school to share information and give insight to what their school is like. Not really knowing what I wanted and where I wanted to go, I simply chose the school that was closest to me and the one that most of my friends and people I was familiar with were going to. Though I picked out Burke High School in spite of that, I am more than pleased with the decision I made. Burke has many opportunities that are unique from other schools- such as a planetarium, an air and space academy where you can earn your pilots license before graduating, child development and educators classes, pre requisite classes for journalism, a newspaper/digital journalism and yearbook staff, great sports coaches and training and much more. At Burke, there is also a lot of racial diversity and it is great to have that! I am proud to be a bulldog. Burke has faced a lot, such as a stabbing, but we are a strong family.
Buzzing student culture. As long as you have friends you'll be okay. Teachers can be tough, assignments and school layout are both exhausting, and the cliquiness feels like it's right out of a HS drama, but altogether the extracurriculars and the
student population working with each other out of desperation makes it tolerable. I can't rate Burke five stars because - if the situation's similar to the time I had there - sanitation needs serious improvement and there's a lot of mental health issues, substance abuse, and racialized violence (speaking as a neurodivergent NDN who had to rep Burke for ejudication and NICE Youth Council, it's prevalent). It's also not easy to apply for assistance programs, with the school being so packed the system gets overwhelmed. But I can't honestly call Burke a bad place either. There's adults SOMEWHERE in the building who understand what you're going through, the student organizations' doors are always open, and the worst days are survivable. So, 6/10.
