Bureau Valley High School is a very welcoming school. There are many activities, and the school spirit is incredible! There is a lot of support in this school.
I really love BV. It is a small school so you know everybody and everybody knows you. You can have a close relationship with your teachers due to the small class sizes.
With constant personnel changes and a poor culture, Bureau Valley has let its students down. Very easy courses and no external motivators cause students lose faith in their district. A nice building with recent additions makes the district look enticing on paper.
I like the facilities at Bureau Valley. It is a fairly new school so everything is kept up especially the gym. I also love doing sports here. I have had so many fun memories with all my teammates.
Average small high school. Needed more consistent teachers. I had many teachers leave during my time and it made the district seem lacking because they couldn’t keep their teachers.
It was a small friendly high school where you had plenty of opportunities even though it was a country school.
Attended BVHS from 2012-2016. Overall a good experience, but I wish I had gotten involved in more of the activities offered sooner and had come out of my shell ASAP rather that right at the end of my time in high school.
I liked my chemistry teacher and was happy she was there until I graduated. staff needs improvement .
What I liked most about Bureau Valley is how everyone knows everyone there. You can be walking down the hallway during passing period and ten people could randomly say Hi to you.
I love my school's sense of pride, but this school does nothing to help its students who are struggling. It lets many students who want to go to college fall in the cracks because they don't have a GPA of 3.6 or higher. If students don't plan to go to college there are little to no classes to help them. There are many good teachers and coaches here, though there are a few that aren't very helpful. The Renaissance Program here helps students raise grades without actually helping the student learn more. The school lacks diversity and those who are different are alienated and bullied. Overall, the best thing about this school is that the teachers who do care, truly care about your future and well being. That is something that I think is rare in a school and truly helps this school be bearable.
Great science program, most of the teachers are very helpful and supportive. Air conditioning works well. Discipline isn't always consistent.
As a current student, I believe that Bureau Valley does the best with its resources. The administration tries their hardest, but one of the Athletic directors (Mrs. Litherland) has a complex that she is better than anyone. Many people dislike her and also the superintendent (Dr. Endress) has problems keeping his religion out of the school although we are not a religious affiliated school. Overall, I believe that Bureau Valley is a great school.
This High school has a lot of fund issues and have had to cut many programs but they are very good at making the most of what they have.
Principal is very involved, but not very relational. Guidance counselor is not well-informed on many topics, especially in regard to counseling/mental health issues and does not always give the best counsel for college preparation. The office staff is helpful. Bullying is not an issue. Dress codes are in place but not enforced very well. Attendance is high.
There are many excellent teachers at Bureau Valley, who go the extra mile. Poorer quality teachers are few.
Community spirit within teams is high. Basketball and football games have a strong fan club, even among those who are alums of the consolidated schools that are senior citizens. Many who grew up in this area still live in the area and that provides a community spirit.
Being a rural, community-oriented school, the health and safety factor is not prominent. Bullying, security special measures, police, etc. have not been an issue.
